From What Material is the RTube Built?

The point of the RTube™ is to collect exhaled breath condensate in a manner even simpler than collecting blood. In keeping with this, materials very similar to a blood draw syringe are used to build the RTube. Thus the condenser tube is polypropylene-which is also the same material from which microcentrifuge tubes are made (the small tubes in which most investigators store EBC after collection). The dual-function blue exhalation valve/plunger tip is molded from high-grade silicon, and the white ring that surrounds the valve is Teflon. The blue caps are manufactured from medical-grade vinyl.

The cooling sleeve is aluminum. This never contacts the collected EBC.

The plunger rod is aluminum. This device is used to push the dual-use expiratory valve/plunger tip up the walls of the collector surface (it takes 3 seconds). It never contacts the EBC sample.

The mouthpiece apparatus is built from polypropylene and polystyrene, and again never contacts the EBC.

There are no latex components in the RTube.
